Purchasing a Baby from CJ's Zoo (large birds)
What we will require:
We are very particular about the homes in which our babies will live. As mentioned, we are not a "breeding facility" and therefore we CAN and WILL be selective. We will not sell a baby to someone if we are not comfortable with their prospective new home. We will ask questions, lots of them. So, be prepared. A parrot is a life-long commitment and we want to make sure that you understand that, and are prepared to offer our baby that commitment. If not, we would rather keep it here with us. We view our baby birds as our babies. That means it's our responsibility to look out for their well-being. We will require you to sign an agreement stating that should you decide in the future that you are unable to care for your bird, you will give us first option of buying the bird back from you at the purchase price you paid, and after a full vet check to ensure the bird is in the same health as when purchased from us.
When you can take your baby home:
As we mentioned in our Weaning Policy , we do not force wean our babies. It's just not in their best interest. Therefore, we can't give you a "Guaranteed Wean Date" for your baby. We will, however, not drag it out any longer than necessary, as we want your baby to be in it's new, permanent home as soon as possible. We prefer NOT to sell a baby that is not fully weaned. The ONLY exception is if we know you are an experienced handfeeder, and then we may consider it once the baby is eating solid foods and pellets and down to only 1 or 2 handfeedings per day. This policy is not to insult a new owner, or to prevent you from "bonding" with your new baby (that is a myth). It is for your bird's health and well-being.
What we guarantee:
We guarantee that you will receive a healthy, happy baby bird! We have our vet check each baby for overall health and well-being. Our birds are not exposed to outside birds that haven't been quarantined and vet checked by OUR vet, and all of our birds are in healthy condition. Therefore, we do not do Polyoma Vaccines (we keep them far past 5 weeks, so there's no need in passing this expense to you). If you would like this done, you must have paid your deposit and the cost of the vaccine (non-refundable) by age of 4 weeks to allow us to have this started at the appropriate age and complete the appropriate series (done a few weeks apart). We will guarantee the health of our babies, and ask that you take your new baby to a qualified Avian Vet in your area within 3 days to have them do a check-up. If your vet finds that there is something wrong with your bird in that time, we will gladly refund your money or provide you with another baby of the same type, but only after we see results directly from your vet, and have our vet confirm these results.
We do not allow ANYONE outside the family to enter our bird room. Please do not ask to "come see" the parents or other birds that we have. We do this for the health and well-being of our birds. If you would like to see pictures of the parents or any of our birds, you can do so by going to our gallery, or we can send you pictures. If you are close enough that you come to our home to pick up your baby, then you will only be allowed to see and handle your baby. This is to ensure that we maintain a clean, disease-free flock.
