Blue and Gold Macaws

Blue & Golds are one of the more popular macaws seen in shows, zoos, stores, etc. They are very sweet and lovable. They are not the largest of the macaws, but are also not small either. When tame, they expect (and can get quite demanding about it) attention and love. They are great pets if you want a macaw that's a cuddler and that is talkative and interactive with the household.

We have 1 pair - Lilo & Stitch. They have been together for many, many years. We also have 1 baby from them - Nyko, born in 2007. He's a "Momma's Boy", very talkative and very loving. Our pair is large and all babies we have gotten from them are on the large side. Lilo is very meek and gentle, while Stitch is very much the "boss" and is outgoing, but not aggressive (except during breeding season). This combination provides excellent personality in their offspring.

Blue Throat Macaws

Where to begin???? These birds quickly won my heart, and aside from Hyacinths, are probably my favorite of the macaws. Their numbers in the wild are dwindling due to illegal trapping/killing and destruction of their natural habitat, therefore they are on the endangered species list and are protected. They are sometimes confused with the Blue & Gold due to similar markings/colorings. However, they are a bit smaller than the B & G, they have more of a "teal" color than a true blue like the B & G, their facial feathers are the same teal color, and their throats are the same teal color instead of black like the B & G.

We have 1 pair of BTM's - Stella & Hammy. We have been completely amazed by these birds. They are intelligent, personable, loving, and quite the little engineers. They see something and immediately want to take it apart, dismantle it and figure out how it works! They are not as cuddly as B & G macaws, but their personality and intelligence make them excellent pets.

Warning: Owning a BTM is not to be taken lightly. These birds are highly intelligent, and require plenty of stimulation. Be sure you provide a very secure cage, and plenty of toys that will allow them to exercise their minds.
